1964 Mercedes 190D

The Fintail Mercedes, named for the fins on their tails, were introduced in 1961, and replaced the Ponton sedans. The 190 was Mercedes' cheaper, more basic sedan, and the "D" on this one denotes a diesel. Seeing such early Mercedes is becoming increasingly rare, but this one appears in great shape for its age.

 

  

1979 VW Dasher 5-Door

The VW Dasher was the U.S. version of the Passat, itself a slightly modified Audi Fox. It was available as the fastback sedan shown here, and a wagon. In 1978, it was redesigned with quad headlights and larger bumpers. The Dasher was replaced by the Quantum in 1981. This 5-door has interesting silhouette, and the pink, white, and orange stripes down the side are straight out of the '70s.

 

 

 

 

1972 AMC Hornet SST

The Hornet was AMC's compact, competing with the Nova, Maverick, and Dart, as well as the new imports. It was introduced in 1970, and would last until 1977, though the same basic car formed the base for the "new" Concord. By the mid 70s, the Hornet was available in sedan, coupe, wagon, and hatch body styles, and, for 1971 only, the sporty SC360. Styling was handsome and modern, and looks great in this blue and white two-tone.

 

 

 

 

1958 Edsel Ranger Sedan

The Edsel was a brand of cars (technically separate from Ford) introduced in 1958. Ford worked hard on this new Edsel and claimed it was both revolutionary and modern. However, someone forgot to tell the developers, who made a large, chrome-slathered car that seemed to be stuck in the past. By the late 1958, though the biggest fins were still to come, people were shying away from cars like the Edsel, and its hideous vertical grill didn't help. Today, however, the Edsel is the ultimate in 50s cool. The rear lights, the split bumpers, and even the font on the badges are all just so 50s. And this base Ranger looks great in baby blue with matching rims.

 

 

 

 

1971 BMW 2002

The classic sporty small car, the 2002 has achieved legendary status today for its great looks, and great performance, whether stock or tuned. The 2002, along with the other BMW sedans and coupes from the same time period, saved BMW at a difficult time for the company. The 2002 was built from 1968 to 1975, and was available as a fuel-injected tii, and a turbo, both highly collectible today. This 2002 has the earlier, and prettier, circular rear lights, and is finished in a great shade of blue.

 

 

  

 

1962 Mercury Comet Custom Sedan

The Comet was Mercury's version of the Ford Falcon, and the name continued on as their version of the Fairlane, and later the Maverick. For the first generation (pictured here), the Comet was a slightly luxurious and upscale compact, and, similar to Chrysler's Valiant, wasn't badged as a Mercury until 1962. Styling was similar to that of other period Mercuries, but seemed cluttered compared to the clean Falcon. The Comet shown here, though it has some front end damage, looks great in dark blue with matching rims. Definitely a more interesting compact than any new one these days.

 

 

 

1985 Bertone X1/9

The X1/9 was first sold as a Fiat in 1972, and when they retired it 10 years later, Bertone took up production for seven more years. The X1/9 competed with cars like the Porsche 914, rather than the outdated MGB, and was met with favorable reviews. Its wedge styling still looked fresh in the 80s, and updates meant it sold reasonably well throughout its production. This one looks sweet with its bright blue paint, and extremely '80s "Tron" wheels.
